It is aimed to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in the provision of prehospital care. PHTLS trainings improve the quality of trauma care and reduce mortality. The training program is based on a philosophy that emphasizes the treatment of the multisystem trauma patient as a unique entity with special needs.
PHTLS encourages critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is based on the belief that given good knowledge and basic principles, EMS practitioners can make sound decisions regarding patient care. The training program uses the internationally accepted PHTLS textbook.
